Solving Surfer's Ear

You might call Surfer's Ear the epidemic of cold water surfers. Like a strange twist of payola for cold water stoke, Surfer's Ear or "exostosis" occurs in those of us who surf consistently in water with temperatures below 60 degrees.

Studies from nearby the world have confirmed that after ten years of cold water surfing more than 80% of surfers will have exostosis while over 90% will have it after 20 years of cold water surfing. Large citizen ear exams have revealed that even a fair amount of warm water surfers have moderate cases.

Akdy Hood

Not to be confused with Swimmer's Ear-an infection caused by trapped water and bacteria or fungus-Surfer's Ear is a painless, creeping bone increase that can finally close down the ear canal. The bombardment of cold water and wind chill causes the bones just under the thin skin of the canal to enlarge. Knobs begin to form halfway into the canal to the eardrum in what seems an endeavor to safe the eardrum. Over time the knobs can grow together, choking off the canal. This may leave a space in the middle of the knobs and the eardrum where wax and water can get trapped, foremost to infection and pain.

If you surf cold water and consideration addition earwax or water blockages, your knobs are probably getting bigger. If you wear a hood your knobs may grow a bit slower because your ears are warmer. Any way this won't forestall the growth. The evidence points to both water and wind chill as combined culprits.

Ear plugs are a good call as plugs block the cold water. Drugstores carry assorted foam, plastic and silicone plugs. Foam and plastic disc plugs can irritate the canal lining and shove wax in. Putty plugs can slide around, detach and get stuck-especially if rolled into cylinders. Swim plugs work, but don't count on hearing someone else on your wave.

Vented plugs like's Doc's Proplugs will let sound in while retention water out. Robert Scott, Md invented and patented these vented plugs in the 1970s. Get your local surf shop to size your ear and if you can hear yourself hum on the side with one plug in you've got a water seal.

Best bet is a hood and plug combo, retention the head warmer while retention your plugs in.

Other preventive measures occur in the middle of sessions. Drying ears out is critical. A few drops of rubbing alcohol, a sun dry or even low-heat blow dry can work. Ear docs propose a 50/50 white vinegar/alcohol clarification to dry and help forestall infection. Add a few drops of garlic oil as a natural antibiotic. Dr. Scott suggests retention the ears as warm as possible when out of the water. Wear your Surfer® beanie when you check the surf.

If you have an earwax jam, try 3-4 drops of palm-warmed mineral oil or glycerin earwax clarification for a few days to soften up the wax. Consequent with polite flushing of warm water and/or hydrogen peroxide over a basin to run the wax out. No Q-tips or pointed objects: You'll push the wax back or even puncture your eardrum.

If the clog persists, see a surfer's ear specialist. An Ent will be qualified with a tiny suction gadget with a Rosen tip. This beats the slower irrigation formula discussed above that most Ers use for earwax removal.
If your knobs close up your canal you may need surgery. This will be sure if you have repeated clogging and infection. The two surgical techniques used are drilling and chiseling. In drilling, the back of the ear may be cut and folded send while the bone is ground down. The drill can damage hearing and scar the skin pretty badly.

Opt for the chisel technique. This technique was industrialized in the 1990s and since perfected by Doug Hetzler, Md of Santa Cruz, Ca. The technique utilizes tiny 1mm chisels to split and chip the bone off with delicate precision. The chiseling technique only takes a few hours and causes less skin damage, foremost to faster recovery times and a return to the water within weeks. The cost is no laughing matter but assurance will usually cover it. At the moment there are only a handful of docs doing this surgery.

Regrowth can occur after surgery. The jury is still out, but chiseling may cause less grow-back than drilling. Best to forestall it before it gets this far anyway. Keep 'em warmer and drier and you'll be cold water surf-stoked for many years.

Dog Worming - Why Your Pet Needs regular Treatments

Effective dog worming boils down to three key ingredients. Firstly, dog owners need to be aware that worming your pet is an principal aspect in the maintenance of their dog's health. Secondly, is the need to recognise, and understand how worm infections come about. And thirdly, that the lowest line in preventing re-infections is through the quarterly use of a cogent treatment.

Why re-infection? Because, a very high ration of puppies are already born infected with roundworms, in spite of any medicine that the mother might have had before the mating. Worms are directly transmitted to the unborn puppies via the mother's uterus. If contagion is avoided at this initial stage, then infection is virtually certain within the first few weeks of puppy hood. Except, that this time it is through faecal contamination in the litter area.

Akdy Hood

Adult roundworms can grow to as much as 15cm in length. Not surprisingly then, serious complications can arise, together with the death of a puppy, if the litter is left untreated.

Providing that the breeder was responsible, then he/she would have treated the pups at 3/4 weeks and then again before they went to their new homes. Following that, added medication should be given while the period up until 6 months of age. Thereafter, a degree of immunity has built up in the growing puppy, but medicine must be carried out for the rest of the dog's life.

Tapeworms

The tapeworm is another tasteless internal sycophant that can have an extremely detrimental consequent on your dog's health. The female tapeworm is known to be capable of depositing anyone up to 200,000 eggs in a singular day. This makes the tapeworm an extremely virulent threat. And that doesn't just apply to dogs; there is also a risk to most other animals, and to humans as well.

Tapeworm infections arise in several separate ways. The three most relevant ways are: Contamination via palpate with other infected animals, and their immediate environments. From palpate with the faeces of infected animals. And, most nauseatingly, through the dog ingesting its own contaminated fleas. Which is a added good fancy to keep a close watch on your flea control program.

Perhaps the two most certain indications of infection are: The parasites can often be seen in the dog's faeces. The worm is whitish, and occasionally you will see it moving, whilst you can recognize the eggs, as they look as if tiny grains of rice. Sometimes they are visible lodged in the hair around the dog's anus, often causing the dog intense discomfort. Consequently, we have all seen the telltale sign of a dog dragging its rear end across the ground in a forlorn effort to ease the irritation.

The good news is that providing you consequent a course of medication from puppy hood through to old age, then your pet is 90% sure to be worm free. For the other 10% you will need to stay on top of the problem, through early recognition of any problems, and then acting at once on that.

So, if you have just brought home a new puppy, or a dog of any age, stoppage should be your watchword, and that means calling in to your local vet. There you will get up to date suggest on deterrent measures, and what current medications are proving to be effective.

There is actually no doubt that worming your dog, and retention it free from worms, is an principal ingredient in providing good health care for your dog.

Belfast mammoth Quarter

Knowing Your Way nearby Belfast expansive Quarter.

When you are in Belfast it is worth taking a tour of the expansive Quarter. Many people find it very strange why the people of Belfast are so proud of a ship which literally sank. Our usual reply to that is, "It was ok when it left here."

Akdy Hood

The expansive Quarter includes the following:

Titanic Memorial St George's Market Waterfront Hall Belfast Law Courts Albert Memorial Clock Custom's House Harbour Office Sinclair Seamen's Presbyterian Church Clarendon Dock The Odyssey Arena St George's Church River Lagan

There will soon be a expansive Visitor's Centre to be seen with an investment of over £100 million and I for one am seeing forwards to that. It will be built in the grounds where the notable expansive ship was built and will cover some 75 hectares of land. The expansive was a magnificent ship despite its sad demise, and at its initiate was an innovative and superbly built ship of weighty proportions. It bore testament to Belfast as a world class city for ship construction in the early 1900s. This was as well as being renown for rope making, tobacco and the linen industries that saw the city grow economically and commercially. There was a great power in Belfast at that time and some commentators have even said an arrogance about its right to come to be a world important port.

Titanic Memorial Belfast City Hall.

There is a expansive memorial to the East of Belfast City Hall, (that is to the left side as you look at its entrance) and it is here the newly designated expansive Quarter begins. This shows two weeping sea nymphs keeping on to the feet of a rather scantily clad woman and in their arms, the Titanic's unknown soldier. This memorial has scribed upon it the names of those who were known as the "Guarantee Group", a bunch of men responsible for checking the execution targets of the ship's maiden voyage. If you look over to your left you will see all that is left of the once Methodist Church, a lonely Corinthian facade.

May road Belfast

Leaving there you can go to May road and view the classically designed Presbyterian Church. May road took its name from the "May Family" and they married an illegitimate daughter of the second Marquis of Donegall. They became sovereigns of Belfast City, but the Marquis kept the marriage a intimately guarded secret. If you are nearby May road in late December, the May road choir still achieve in duration costume and is literally worth a listen. The Presbyterian Church is also worth a visit and can hold 1700 people. There are impressive twin staircases, boxed pews, a mahogany gallery and an excellent timber coffered ceiling. Roughly directly opposite Charles Dickens could have lost his life quite easily. The Victoria Hall in which he had been giving a reading, had a cornice fall off and onto the ground below, narrowly missing the notable author. If you are into architecture then seek out Joy road on the right hand side. Look for numbers 14-26 and you will see the only surviving Georgian town houses. These were once red brick merchant's homes and were at one time handed over to be used as theatrical lodgings. The road became known as the road of the Three "Ps" which stood for, Pride, Poverty and Pianos.

John Boyd Dunlop

Across the road you will see Ross's Auctions which used to be the Presbyterian general Assembly nearby 1875. If you look closely, there is a plaque commemorating John Boyd Dunlop, the man who invented the first pneumatic tyre. He also ran a hospital for sick horses where Telephone House now stands. If you keep walking then on the right hand side you will come to a market.

St George's Market

Just pass the Ronnie Drew Bar you will see the brick and the iron gates of the market. It was restored at a cost of £4 million and is now a prosperous market. The entire surrounding area has always been linked with markets of one kind or an additional one and the area is commonly known locally as "The Markets". This newly restored market opened in 1999 and has got bigger every year and has now extended its opening days. I ordinarily go there for an hour on a Friday morning to have a look nearby the collection market and there is always much to see. always on offer is fruit, vegetables, fresh fish and shell fish, clothes, books, chocolates, pastries and a ton of other merchandise. There is a City Food and garden market on a Saturday and Sunday with tons of Irish yield and some marvelous cheeses. It also hosts some concerts especially nearby the Christmas festive duration and many a good party it has witnessed in true Belfast style.

Waterfront Hall

Keep walking towards the River Lagan and you will come to Lanyon Place, with the Bt Tower, Hilton Hotel and some other office buildings. To the left is the Waterfront Hall. It has a huge bronze dome which does help it stand out and face it is a row of black sheep, symbolising once again the market theme. The cattle markets used to be held here in the 1900s. The Waterfront draws many great acts and hosts operas, plays, drama ballet and musicals.

If you turn nearby from the Waterfront you will see both the old Courts of Justice and the New Courts. When accomplished in the Waterfront, come out the door and turn right and you should see the River Lagan on your right. Keep walking until you come to Queen's Bridge which was designed by Charles Lanyon and named after Queen Victoria. It is made of Newry granite and replaced what was called The Long Bridge. At the beginning of the bridge you will see the "Harmony of Belfast" a tall modern depiction of a lady in stainless steel, designed by Andy Scott, contribution hope to the people of Belfast City. With your back to this look down and you will see a leaning clock.

Albert Memorial Clock

Set in the new Queen's quadrilateral and beside the Laganside Bus Centre sits the Albert Clock, a notable Belfast landmark. It is 113 feet high and was named after Queen Victoria's consort, Albert. It was built by Barre, though many believe it to be a Lanyon design. On the left is one of my favourite bars known now as McHughs, but has a rather "cheeky" past. It was once more notable as a "bordello" as captured by Madame Du Barry. Just beyond this is custom House quadrilateral and here used to be known as "Speaker's Square". There is a bronze model there of the speaker and close by is one of Britain's oldest drinking fountains for horses, the Calder Fountain.

If you go back now towards the River Lagan, you will see a big blue fish ceramic model (the salmon of knowledge) which is a celebration of the return of fish to the River Lagan. Look intimately at this clever construct by local artist John Kindness and you will see it is covered with mosaics with different texts and messages face the history of Belfast. If you want a expansive Tour by boat, this is the exact place to find it. You will get to see the expansive cry dock and the drawings of its customary design.

The Harbour Office

Keep walking along and you will pass the Seagate terminal and find the Harbour Office. It is an Itlianate construction designed by Lanyon's partner W.H.Lynn. In the boardroom you will see the captain's table and chairs that were made for the Titanic, but were not completed on time. There is a good selection of paintings inside. To the left of this is the Sinclair Seaman's Mission Church. There is a pitch pine pulpit in the shape of a ship's prow and the font is a ship's binnacle. The actual bell of Hms Hood calls worshippers to prayer and collection boxes come in the shape of lifeboats. Yes it is different! At the door you will find some text which reads:

A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like A Medicine

It is still the customary duty of the priest to visit every ship that docks in Belfast Harbour. From there walk along the newly paved Clarendon Dock. Look for Barrow quadrilateral which was notable for music events until resident's complaints got the best of them. Pat's Bar is where to go if you want customary Irish Music and the Rotterdam, if you feel in the need for some Blue's Music. Many a someone used to leave the Rotterdam to make their final journey to Van Diemen's Land (prisoners sent to Tasmania)

Look over now and you will see the giant yellow cranes known as Samson and Goliath. Locals often refer to them as Samson and Delilah. You will then see the Concert Hall known as The Odyssey, Belfast's own millennium project. This hall can hold 10,000 seats and is a very favorite venue in Belfast for big attraction acts. There are many restaurants, pubs, a cinema and it is home to the ice hockey team, The Belfast Giants.

Come back along High road and you will see St George's Church. Keep walking along and you will come to Belfast's only triangular shaped bar known as "Bittles." They do an excellent pint of Guinness by the way. Back along Chichester road and you will go past the Garrick Bar. You will have by now earned some food and refreshments and have seen all of the expansive Quarter in Belfast.

Tips For Using Google hunt

So many people use Google hunt these days (it's the most favorite hunt machine by a long chalk) that we seem to forget that it's got a lot more under the hood than simply a recipe by which you can type in a join of words and get a list of websites.

In fact, some of the frustrations people have when searching could disappear if they used a join of neat tricks to get the best results possible. They'd save an awful lot of time too, so here are just a join that will make your searches a lot more bearable.

Akdy Hood

Exact search

Ok, so you were browsing the web one day and you noticed a website that had the words "holiday rentals in peru" in the headline. A few weeks later you pop back on to Google to try and find it and you hit a problem. When you type in that phrase, you don't find the website you were looking for, it's as if it's gone completely. But it hasn't, it's just that Google doesn't think you wanted that exact phrase at all, so it's searched for dissimilar combinations of the words you used.

This is what happens in most searches. Even though you might type in a phrase, Google takes all the words in that phrase and gives you results based on those words appearing in the websites that it deems to be the best match.

So to get colse to this, simply pop two quotes ("") colse to the phrase and hunt again. You'll now get hunt results for web pages that are optimised for that exact phrase. Simple! But there's more...

I know it's on this site, but I just can't find it...

A lot of websites are huge. Some have thousands of pages of information and they sometimes help by having a hunt box. Any way that hunt box is terrible half the time and try as you might, you just can't find what you're after. So use Google instead!

If it's a large site and it's favorite enough then you can bet Google has already got most of the pages on their indexed somewhere, so what you do is use the 'site' modifier in search. A bit like this:

site:bbc.co.uk flooding

This will find all pages on the Bbc site about 'flooding'. Clever huh?

But there's more.

Want to know the time in Singapore? simply type "What time is it in Singapore"

And let's say we want to change our money for our trip out there. I wonder how much my pounds will go in anyone the currency is in Singapore? I have no idea, so I great as 'Big G'.

"What is ten pounds in Singapore money?"

It'll tell me what the currency is and how much my ten pounds will get me. Awesome huh?

There are loads more things you can do with Google that are even more advanced, but I'll save those for an additional one post!

Dry Cleaning Solvent - condition Hazard For Workers

The evaporative organic chemical, perchloroethylene, commonly used in dry cleaning, can cause some serious health problems in workers. This solvent primarily enters the body from inhalation of its vapors or by being spilled on the skin. This causes:
Dizziness, drowsiness or loss of coordination flush and blistering of the skin after prolonged contact Mild loss of memory Decreased visual perception Slowed reaction time may build after some years of exposure Liver and kidney damage which may build into cancer.

In increasing to these effects, the National Toxicology agenda and the International department for study on Cancer have both designated perchloroethylene as a "probable human carcinogen".

Akdy Hood

Dry cleaning employees can be exposed to this chemical while performing disposition tasks and machine maintenance such as:
Loading dirty clothes into the machine, which displaces chemically contaminated air, forcing it out of the machine Removing clothes, especially thick items, before the drying cycle is done Transferring solvent laden clothes into the dryer Pressing freshly dried clothes Using a perchloroethylene based spotting agent Using a perchloroethylene based waterproofing agent Cleaning lint and button traps on the machines Raking out the still to take off distillation unit residue When changing the solvent filter while maintenance of the water separator When handling or storing chemical waste

In addition, dry cleaning machines give off 'fugitive emissions' which are not captured by vapor salvage and are released straight through a vent or when the loading door is opened. Emissions are also due to leaking machines, hoses, valves, and ducts.

Older dry cleaning machines, called transfer machines, expose workers to high amounts of vapors while the transfer from the washer to the dryer. Newer dry to dry machines filter out vapors and re-circulate the chemical for use. This decreases chemical publish to the environment as older machines were often vented outside. The dry to dry machine also minimizes solvent use and decreases worker exposure.

Dry cleaning machines should be commonly serviced and maintained and older machines substituted when possible. Adequate ventilation is requisite for controlling the levels of perchloroethlylene in the workplace. Overhead fans, exhaust systems and an external ventilation hood are designed to move the vapors away from workers and customers, while continuously supplying fresh air to the dry cleaning area. New machines are designed with ventilation systems to forestall the leave of vapors. Air monitoring devices are ready to check the level of chemical present. Osha emphasizes that "Reducing exposure to this potentially hazardous chemical is emphasized straight through a compound of inhibitive maintenance and operate of leaks in dry cleaning equipment, proper ventilation and good work practices." It recommends:
Do not load dry cleaning machine beyond its capacity. Do not open the machine door while it is running. Keep machine door done as much as possible. Do not shortcut the drying cycle by removing garments from the machine before the cycle is finished. Keep head and face turned away from the machine door and clothes when removing solvent - laden clothes from washer. Do not transfer solvent to machines by hand or with an open bucket. A done piping principles that connects directly to machine drum should be used. Wait until machine and solvent are cold before performing maintenance. Use spotting agents sparingly. Store solvent containers and waste materials in tightly done containers. Clean up spills immediately using accepted materials and following procedures. Solvent splashes on skin should be instantly washed off with soap and water. Splashes to eyes should be flushed instantly with water. Eye wash center should be ready in dry cleaning area.

Workers in the Dry Cleaning enterprise must be trained on safe work procedures as well as how to handle a solvent spill and when to use personal protective equipment.

motor Check Light On? Don't Panic, Calm Your Nerves Here!

Imagine you are driving happily along and..the dreaded motor light comes on. It is never welcome but it means the computer principles in your car has detected a problem. It may be a straightforward qoute to put it right e.g. A fluid level is low, a bulb has failed or it may be more serious like the failure of a component e.g. A sensor or regulator.

The aim of this report is to give you more facts so you can decide when you need to get pro help.

Akdy Hood

For the last 10 years (and for some car makes longer) vehicles have been fitted with motor supervision control systems. The Ecu (engine control unit) controls not only the motor but also the gearbox (transmission) the brakes and the suspension. The more contemporary and higher spec. The car the more the features it will have. So there are de facto hundreds of reasons for the motor check light to come on. But don't panic the Ecu can be 'read' and a fault code should indicate what the qoute is.

What is the Check motor Light / motor supervision light?

All contemporary vehicles from around 1996 run on motor supervision systems. And the Cel (check motor light) is a warning light telling you there is a problem; something is not working properly. The malfunction could be a component, or a fluid level or a software problem

Can the car be driven? This is the first demand that comes to mind and the normal rule is: if the car seems to be running Ok you can drive it but you should get it checked as soon as possible. Try to make a decision based on the symptoms - if the car is running rough - stalling, hesitating, driving erratically or seems unsafe in any way best to get it recovered. When in doubt all the time get it towed!

The Cel went out by itself; is everything Ok now? Unfortunately the error may still be gift and recorded in the vehicle's computer system. Again it's best to get a scan done to sort the problem. To do this you will need a technician with a scanner and the software to do the analysis. A scanner will recapitulate one or more fault codes and allow the technician to reset the motor check light when the qoute has been fixed.

Is there an easy way to clear the code?

Can I disconnect the battery or pull a fuse or disconnect the Ecu? Well you know I'm going to say it's not advisable because it doesn't solve the qoute and the qoute will most likely return.

How can I reset the motor light to off?

There is a reckon your check light came on and the most likely reckon is that there is a fault somewhere in the system. If there is a fault the vehicle's computer will have stored it as a fault code which, of course, could be any one of hundreds of different codes. Fault codes are fortunately more or less the same across the whole range of different vehicles; that is to say fault code P 0100 is the same for a Jaguar as it is for a Ford as is for an Opel.

The priority is to get the basal qoute fixed. The fault code will whether indicate directly where the qoute lies, for example a faulty Mass air flow meter (component problem) or it may point to a faulty circuit and more investigation will be needed. The leading thing is to get the basal qoute fixed then reset the motor check light. Unless you have scanning tool yourself you will need the help of a technician. If the qoute is simple, an entry level scanner and software will probably solve it. More difficult problems will wish more sophisticated equipment. It's like a curative problem; do you see your doctor or go to a specialist?

We all need devotee help from time to time. My guidance when looking for devotee help is to ask around. Check out other people's experiences with a particular firm or ask your quarterly mechanic for guidance on who to contact. In expanding to all this it's all the time best to have as much knowledge yourself on how things work. No one likes a 'wise guy' but you'll be respected for being well informed. Car Air Flow Meters - Identify, Troubleshoot and Cure Petrol Or Diesel Air Flow Meter Problems

What is an air flow meter (Afm); how would you recognize it and what does it do?

Did you know that as you press the accelerator to go faster in your car so you allow more air and fuel into the engine. All this takes place under the bonnet or hood but how is it controlled? Well the Afm is an important component in regulating the whole of fuel injected into the machine of a modern car so all modern petrol and diesel engines have an Afm.

Akdy Hood

As you go faster (press the pedal) the Afm senses that more air is flowing and tells the engine's brain (Ecu) which then instructs the injectors to pump more fuel. It's a bit like running faster or up a hill; your brain senses your muscles need more oxygen; your heart rate rises and you breath faster.

Engines with carburettors (remember them?) do not need an Afm because the carb itself regulates the whole of fuel and air going into the engine. So when your machine management panel indicates a fault in the Afm you'll need to find it and replace it. This can often be done without master tools and using a bit of 'savvy', base sense and a workshop manual..

Look for the air intake opportunity to the engine. This is usually plastic, shaped a bit like a small trumpet. Succeed it to the air filter and usually you will find the Afm either in the filter box or clipped into the pipework going to the engine.

Most Afms have a 12 volt (not dangerous) electrical plug into them which is unquestionably disconnected.

What are the different types of Maf used in modern cars and how do they work?

The earlier type of Afm (eg Bosch Jetronic) used a vane or flap inside the meter body; as air passed by it opened the flap. A spring then returned the flap towards terminated position when the machine speed slowed down. These vane types are cumbersome and costly to make. Later types of Afm are often called Air Flow Sensors and work on a hot wire system; air flow (over the wires) is measured by how much current is required to keep one of the wires at a predetermined temperature. Look inside and you can usually see two filaments; these have to be thin to portion accurately the speed at which air is flowing into the engine.

Which clubs make air flow meters? Are there pattern copies on the market? former tool fitted to European cars is made by clubs like Bosch, Siemens and Hella and, yes there are a lot of pattern copies on the market. Depending on your budget you may prefer to fit a genuine replacement.

How will you know if your Maf has failed and what effects will failure have on the execution of your car? The easiest indication is, of course, the malfunction light showing on your dashboard! ordinarily the car will start but will run erratically and may even cut out, using more fuel and performing poorly.

How easy is it to convert the air flow meter yourself?

Fortunately it's an easy job, requiring no special skills or tools. Often the meter is plainly clipped into place or held with torx or hexagonal bolts.

An Elephant Sat On The Hood Of My Car (Part 1)

It was 1981 or 82 and we had decided to visit some friends in Southern California. We weren't much for traveling in those days. Not that we didn't enjoy it; we just didn't admittedly have the money and living in Phoenix while the summer, driving 500-600 miles in 115 degree weather just wasn't very appealing. But Janice and Andy had been insisting that we visit since they were such good friends of ours before they left our neighborhood due to his enterprise transfer. Jane and Janice, in fact, were attached at the hip the 7 years they lived two houses down and the kids played together virtually every available moment.

Jane convinced me that July this was the year to visit our good friends. I made the arrangements for the time off from work and we were western bound that last week of August in our trusty camper. We took our time and drove the southern route to San Diego stopping several times to stretch our legs and walk a bit arriving in San Diego that evening nearby 5 Pm where we spent a couple of nights at a very nice Rv park near the water and enjoyed two days of Sea World and the San Diego Zoo before heading up the Freeway to the Mariner's home in Costa Mesa. The days were warm but with a cool breeze and the nights were admittedly delightful. Jane slept like a baby after walking both parks for a solid 8 to 10 hours but I was up and down both nights not being used to the coastal air.

Akdy Hood

Driving north on the fourth day between San Diego and Los Angeles we noticed one of those drive-through animal parks and Jane insisted that we check it out. It was quite involving with animals walking everywhere. You would drive from one section to other waiting for each gate to open to take you to other animal grouping. Many were walking freely straight through the park with others just laying in the sun or in the shade and you could stop and take pictures and just take your good old time working your way straight through the park. It was involving to watch the animals in this environment as opposed to the old day at the zoo.

At each gate, there were clear warnings to keep your hands inside the windows, keep them rolled up as animals came close to the car and by all means do not honk your horn. Unfortunately, there was a car of young adults slightly ahead of us that were having quite a time trying to stir up the pot with the large cats. You could see them taunting the lions that were in the length in hopes they would come closer. They would call them, stick there arms and heads out the door and wave their arms furiously to get the animals attention. Fortunately, for the most part, the animals paid itsybitsy attentiveness with just a itsybitsy lift of the head, a short behold of disgust and then laying their heads back down paying basically no never-mind.

But that did not hold true for Mr. Elephant. Although the people were not trying to get his attention, he was the one that had had adequate of this nonsense. He gently made his way toward our cars but to our surprise the young couples either saw him arrival or got fed up them selves with being ignored and took off just in time. But there we were between the Elephant and the cars behind us. Not sure what was about to happen we rolled up our windows and watched as Mr. Elephant strolled to front of the camper, slightly raised his trunk, gave a slide nod, then turned and proceeded to sit on the front or our hood. "Oh my goodness, what do we do now?" I could hear Jane speak. I must admit I was at a unblemished loss. The big fella did not over do it. He made his statement quite clear then stood back up and moved on with admittedly no fan fare. A couple of tons on my hood left quite an impression, if you know what I mean.

At first I was most implicated about my radiator but once covering of the park where we could stop there was no indication of whatever leaking. I pulled up to the office, the people were very apologetic and both the park and ourselves made a few calls to the insurance companies and within an hour or so we were off and on our way to Andy and Janice's.

As we pulled onto the San Diego freeway heading north, we had not gone more than 3 miles and a car about 4 cars in front of us got impatient and tried to switch lanes not noticing the car next to them and before they knew it there was a three car pile up that we just barely missed - two cars and a camper. After looking that everybody seemed to be just fine, we noticed that cars were starting to drive onto the shoulder to get nearby the crash site. We decided to follow them since we were tired and running a bit late after being held up at the park. What we did not observation was that for some reason, the camper also left the scene of the crisis before any Highway Patrol arrived.

25 Basic security Practices For Working With Corrosives

By definition, 'Corrode', means 'to eat away' or 'destroy itsybitsy by little'. Corrosive liquids can destroy steel at a rate of 6.35 mm per year. If spilled on the skin, a corrosive liquid will eat away tissue much faster. Corrosive acids and bases, oxidizing and dehydrating agents give off fumes which are toxic to the respiratory system, erode the skin, and are very irritating to the eyes. The fumes of corrosives, in the presence of moisture or humidity, dry primarily on metal surfaces. When the water evaporates, a very corrosive residue remains.

The following basic rules are designed to protect employees and keep their exposure to danger from these chemicals at a minimum.

Akdy Hood

Msds (Material security Data Sheets) should be ready for all the chemicals that you work with or that are stored on-site. This facts should be readily ready for everyone. Read the Msds for all the materials that you work with. Be aware of the hazards such as explosion or fire, danger to human health or the chemical reactivity of these materials that you work with. Know which of these chemicals are corrosives. Store corrosives in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in locked security cabinets designed for this purpose. Comply with rules for the safe storehouse of corrosives and other chemicals. Never place a corrosive on a shelf above eye level. Do not store corrosives with or near incompatible chemicals. Use or cope corrosives in a well ventilated area. Some facilities want that corrosives are used only under a fume hood exhaust theory designed to cope corrosive vapors. Dispense corrosives determined and keep containers tightly closed when not in use. Store corrosives only in manufacturer's containers or in containers that have been recommended. cope containers determined to avoid damaging them. If a job requires the mixing of corrosives and water, stir the controlled amounts of the corrosive very gradually into cold water. Never dump a large estimate of a corrosive directly into water, especially warm or hot water. Never add water to an acid as this can generate intense heat and a violent reaction.  Wear Ppe (personal protective equipment) when working with corrosives. Eye goggles or a face shield, gloves and a protective apron should be used at a minimum. cope and dispose of corrosive waste as risky waste. dispose of according to local, state and federal regulations. Employees must know how to cope splashes and experience by flushing exposed area wholly with water. accident supplies, spill kits and spill response materials should be readily available. Fire extinguishers and firefighting tool should be close to the work area. An eye wash center and security shower must be colse to and all personnel aware of location and know how to use them. All employees must be well trained in spill response, accident evacuation routes and procedures. Do not reuse empty corrosive containers. Do not return unused corrosives such as acids to their former container. They may consist of traces of contamination or an additional one material which could cause a chemical reaction. If a corrosive must be conveyable to an additional one area, place in shatter-proof container. All containers must have faultless labels, including secondary containers.

The potential for harm when working with corrosives can be greatly diminished by following these basic safe practices.

view Honda Civic Likely A Reality

Honda does not do a good job with its understanding cars. No, they are not form failures - rather, they normally are not truly concepts.

When Honda displays a understanding vehicle at an auto show, visitors need to ask Honda show representatives if the car they are looking will be built. Likely, the talk is yes as the vehicle you are looking at may already been green-lighted for production.

Akdy Hood

Concept Civic

At the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Honda revealed one such "concept" vehicle - the Honda Civic. Calling it a understanding isn't definite - this model resembles the 2012 Honda Civic right down to the wheelwells.

But first, some Honda Civic history. This model was introduced as a subcompact to the Us shop in the early 1970s, the first Honda passenger vehicle sold in America. All the time popular, the Honda Civic is a perennial top-five selling car for Honda, rivaling the Honda Accord in sales and contentious directly against the Toyota Corolla.

Stronger Competition

Larger these days and now sold as a compact, the Civic is facing renewed competition from American and Asian automakers alike. Typically, the Civic is fully redesigned once every four or five years, but this latest generation model is hanging nearby for a sixth year. Credit Honda for taking into observation what its competitors are offering, cars such as the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and Hyundia Elantra which have leapfrogged the Civic in technology and fuel efficiency.

On display at the Naias are conceptual versions of the ninth generation Honda Civic coupe and sedan. This vehicle retains much of the Civic form logic, but it also brings back a hybrid model. That hybrid will be powered by a lithium-ion battery, allowing the Civic to claim some of the top fuel efficiency of any standard hybrid.

Design Language

From the exterior, the Civic concepts reveals the sedan's and coupe's smooth, yet stunning lines with steeply raked windshields, broad posture and noticeable character lines along the side view. That lower character line on both vehicles widens toward the rear fenders to deepen the active impression of send energy. In other words, the car looks to be ready to move when it is sitting still. Credit the Civic's deeply recessed headlamps for adding to that mystique.

Inside, Honda promises to voice the fit and close and ease of use cabin layout that has long been a selling point for the Civic. Though the surface reveals the direction for the 2012 Civic, Honda has held back on what the cabin will look like as well as what they will be doing under the hood.

Fuel Efficiency

The biggest challenge for Honda is responding to what its competitors are doing: gift one or more models capable of achieving 40 mpg on the highway, something which eludes the Civic. Indeed, the Hyundai Elantra threw the gauntlet down when its 2011 model was released - both by hand and automated versions get 29 mpg city, 40 mpg highway - much better than the Civic. The Cruze, too, has an Eco model which betters the Civic, getting 42 mpg on the highway.

Don't expect Honda to roll over and play dead - the Japanese automaker is retention some things close to the vest and may surprise us later in 2011 when the 2012 Honda Civic debuts. What won't be a surprise is the vehicle's surface which is currently being showcased at auto shows over North America, representing the ninth generation contract Honda Civic coupe and sedan.
